DESCRIPTION:Marquetry Course. \nThis is a one day course which we have run many times with some local groups\, and we are happy to offer it now as part of our regular schedule. Marquetry is the ancient art of combining different timber veneers together to create a design or a picture. We have a number of templates we can work with to create your first marquetry picture and the exciting part is\, once you can master the technique\, the possibilities are endless. \nIt doesn’t matter if you consider yourself artistic or not\, this is a relaxing and rewarding type of woodwork and we invite you to come to try it for yourself \nWe will be using a range of veneers\, including walnut\, cherry\, beech\, birch and oak and you can choose from a range of designs for your first Marquetry project.

DESCRIPTION:This is a wonderful introduction to the Workshop environment. \nCarving the Woodspirit is one day course. You will discover that it is a very hands-on experience\, but not just your hands\, your full attention will be engaged. You will be using carving chisels and a timber mallet\, and your energy and imagination will be drawn in as you progress. Your own creativity will have space to develop\, with careful guidance and plenty of encouragement from your tutor Tommy. The project is different for everybody who takes part because each finished piece is unique. \nThis is a great day out\, you will enjoy learning a new skill or improve your carving if you have already tried it before\, you will enjoy focusing your mind on the task and you will be surprised at what you can create. \n

DESCRIPTION:Two Day Adirondack Chair Course. \nThis is a 2-day course (9.00 am to 5.00 pm each day). During the two days\, you make the beautiful Adirondack chair. Using Scandinavian pine you will be building a chair that will last for many years and will be a favourite for all family members. With step-by-step instructions from a master craftsman\, you will be learning how to use a variety of tools including a handsaw\, hand plane\, jigsaw\, spokeshave\, bevel\, battery screw gun\, wood chisel\, measuring tape and square. \nYou’ll be working in a fully equipped workshop\, meeting some new people\, as you work through the class together. You will be surprised at how much you will enjoy the process and taking home your chair will give you a great sense of achievement. \nThe class size is restricted to five people\, to ensure physical distancing. The workshop is spacious and each person will work on their own bench. \nAs it’s a two-day course\, you have the perfect chance to see some of Hook Peninsula and its spectacular beaches\, historic sites and visitor attractions. Take a day or two extra to enjoy the area.

Led by mastercraftsman Tommy\, you will be guided through the process using a variety of tools.  Handsaws\, hand planes\, spokeshave\, jigsaw\, square\, measuring tape\, battery screwgun\, drill and wood chisel. All these handtools will be part of the process and you will learn to use them as you go along. \nIf you are unfamiliar with any of these tools\, rest assured\, as Tommy will demonstrate and explain how to use each one safely before you begin. \nAt the end of day 2\, you will be taking home your own Lounger\, and deciding the best spot for it. You will also be taking home some new skills with hand tools and plenty of inspiration about what to try next. \nThe group size is restricted to 5 people\, and the workshop is very spacious. Each person will work on their own workbench using their own set of tools.
